Heya, I wrote an article on a female vocalist that I thought you guys might want to check out because she's on tour with Ben Lee:

"ben lee is my homeboy" tee shirt [24 Nov 2007|02:06pm]

[ mood | geeky ]

last wed. i went to see ben in cambridge (awesome show!) and when i saw the "ben lee is my homeboy" tee shirt i knew that i HAD to have it! but i'm a fatass and the biggest size they had left was men's medium. i'll be dead and decaying 6 months before i fit into that shit. i got it anyway, cuz i figured someday i'll lose weight and squeeze into it. when i got home and tried it on and it sorta almost fits. but i realize now that the chances of me actually getting off my lazy ass and shedding 10 lbs in the next century are slim to none.

so here's my query - does anyone out there have a men's large or women's XL they'd be willing to trade for a medium? i'd really appreciate it!

Nov 18th @ The Basement [10 Oct 2007|04:13pm]

[ mood | curious ]

Hey guys.

I was wondering if anyone in this community was planning on going to the show on Nov 18th @ the Basement in Columbus Ohio?

None of my friends are hard-core ben lee fans like me, nor do any of them really listen either, so I was wondering if anyone would want to meet up/hang out @ the show.

Seriously not looking foreward to seeing him alone, since I did that the last time he came here :[ [but will if I have to!]

Dee :]

Into the Dark:

I finally got to my first Ben Lee show! (and thusly finally seeing all of The Bens, that was only two years in the making)

And it was a really splendid show, despite the fact that he was opening for Mandy Moore.

The Set list as I remember it, I wrote it down, and now I can't find it! I did drive nearly 300 miles to accomplish this feat.

Started with the following:
1. American Television
2. Sex Without Love
3. Into the Dark
Then I don't remember the order of the following:
What Would Jay-Z Do?
Gamble Everything for Love
Love Me Like the World is Ending
Catch My Disease

Ended with: We're All in this Together

I know I'm missing a couple. He played for over an hour. Which was amazing. I left before Mandy Moore came on. I had to get back home (which didn't happen until way after 3 AM anyway). But from pictures in newspapers I guess Ben came out during her set.

Anyway. We, flowerofsilver and I, asked about The Bens reuniting that everyone's talking about. And he said eventually, it's just hard to get their schedules to match. Well obviously. Mr. Lee has just put out RIPE, and then Kweller and Folds are both currently in the studio. Kweller's recording two albums even so he doesn't have to stop touring. Interesting concept.

Brooke and I also decided that we were going to be really nerdy and she wore a BK shirt and I wore a Folds shirt to note our accomplishment of finally completing what we call "our Ben Set." We told him this during the meet-and-greet at the merch table (what's with no t-shirts?) and he promptly said; "I noticed."

And even though you're not my friend on Facebook (unless you are...) here's my pictures from the night: http://wartburg.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2016026&l=fecd1&id=123700160 I'll get them up on photobucket eventually. We were front row. Yeah!

I'm wondering if anyone else shares my thoughts. [29 Sep 2007|01:02am]

[ mood | I should go to bed ]

So, I excitedly went out and got Ripe on the day it came out and found myself with initial disappointments. The album has grown on me since I've been listening to it a little more, but it still falls short for me. Granted, Awake is the New Sleep basically became my bible for a while when I was having some tough times, but that's another story.

I just feel like there are too many instruments on this album. There are a few exceptions obviously, but most of the songs are all electric guitars and keyboards and background vocals and I just miss the more intimate (in a musical way) feel of Awake.

This album also felt a little predictable to me. I mean, I always enjoy what Ben Lee has to say in his songs, and it's nice when he can say things so simply and you feel like, "Oh duh, how come I never realized that?" but I don't get that feeling from much of this album either. Sometimes I knew exactly what he was gonna say, and not in that profound sharing-a-wavelength kind of way.

I love Love Me Like The World Is Ending, Ripe has grown on me a lot, and I've surprisingly fallen for Birds and Bees. I'd be madly in love with Just Say Yes if it was acoustic. And What Would Jay-Z Do is brilliant.

But this album just doesn't shine for me. I mean, it's hard to mark it up with Awake for what it means to me personally, so I guess I'm biased.

Don't get me wrong, because I'm very fond of some of this album. It just didn't live up to my expectations. Way too many instruments on it overall. I even cringe sometimes when the tracks come up on my playlist because they just seem loud and foreign.

Am I the only one who feels this way?

2 realize| we are all in this together

I hope you knew this.... [18 Sep 2007|04:19pm]

[ mood | awake ]

But RIPE came out today here stateside.

Thoughts? I'm still not so hot on Mandy Moore... and I kind of feel as if there's kind of a lot of "naughty" subjects through the album. However, still good.

Ben Lee’s ''American Television'' Debuts in ABC’s ''Start Here'' Campaign
Lee’s Forthcoming Album Ripe is out September 18th on New West Records

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Acclaimed four-time ARIA® winner (Australian Grammys) Ben Lee is featured during the month of August in ABC Television’s new “Start Here” campaign. Lee’s song “American Television,” off his forthcoming new album Ripe, out September 18th in the US, can be heard during the promo branding campaign advertising ABC’s new Fall season. The 30 second spot features clips from highly praised shows including “Ugly Betty,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives” with “American Television” as the music bed. The promo is also currently featured on the front page of abc.com. In past ABC marketing campaigns, they have utilized the hottest new and upcoming talent including Coldplay, The Fray, Sean Kingston and Brandi Carlile.

“Television has always had a big place in my life,” Ben explains. “Growing up in the 80s, particularly in Australia where we were inundated with American TV shows like Growing Pains, Who’s The Boss and Doogie Houser…, that was forming what it meant to be, first of all a teenager, but then to be successful in the world. To have that song used by a network [ABC] with all these great shows, Grey’s Anatomy, Ugly Betty, Lost and Desperate Housewives… that’s one of the greatest things in my career. It’s just fantastic.”

As a result of the massive ABC on-air campaign, New West Records has made “American Television,” “Love Me Like The World Is Ending” (the album’s first single), and the title track “Ripe” available as a 3-song EP on iTunes. The purchase of the songs through iTunes will be credited towards the purchase of the album Ripe as part of the “Complete My Album” program.

A ring-tone of “American Television” is now available through all mobile service providers by texting BLEE1 to 66555.

Ben Lee will release his sixth solo recording, Ripe, September 18th on New West Records. The album, which was produced by John Alagia (John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band, Ben Folds Five) continues Ben’s trademark pop craftsmanship, sense of humor and uncontainable passion for life, as well as represents a marked maturity in form. Ripe features guest appearances by Mandy Moore, Benji Madden (Good Charlotte), Benmont Tench (Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers), Rachael Yamagata, the members of Rooney, Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek), and Charlotte Martin. The album’s first single, “Love Me Like The World Is Ending” is going for adds at AAA on August 13th. A fall tour is being planned; dates will be announced soon.

ben's chisel cover. [03 Apr 2007|03:19pm]

Have you heard Ben's cover of the Cold Chisel song No Sense? Triple J (australian radio station) has been playing it. It's really good.

It's part of a compilation cd of Australian artists paying tribute to the chisel.
